Upgrade to PrestaShop 9: moving from 1.7 and 8 at a fixed price
From PrestaShop 1.7 or 8 to 9, tested on a copy before touching the real store.
Upgrading to PrestaShop 9 from version 1.7 or 8 is not one click: requirements change, many modules need replacing or adapting, the theme needs checking. We do it at a fixed price of €600, on a test copy first and then on the real store, with a backup ready to roll back.
Why moving to 9 pays off
Old versions stop receiving fixes one after another; module vendors stop supporting them; sooner or later the host drops the PHP versions they run on. Staying behind doesn't break the store overnight, but it makes it more fragile and more exposed every month.
Version 9 also brings new features: 9.2, released on 30 September 2026, added a native one-page checkout, and since 9.1 the default theme is Hummingbird, lighter and more modern. Minimum requirement: PHP 8.1.
What we do
- Initial check: current version, installed modules and their compatibility with 9, theme, PHP version available on the host.
- Test copy of the store, separate from the real one, and full backup.
- Upgrade of core, data, orders, customers and catalogue on the copy.
- Modules: update to compatible versions; those without a version for 9 are flagged to you with an estimate.
- Tests of home, categories, search, cart, checkout, payments, shipping and order emails.
- Go-live in an agreed window, with a backup ready to roll back, and a final report.
Price and terms
The fixed price of €600 covers one store with up to 15 third-party modules and a theme compatible with version 9, or the default theme, during office hours: Monday-Friday, 09:00-18:00.
Outside the fixed price, always with a quote first:
- modules without a compatible version: adapted from €180 each, or replaced with an up-to-date alternative;
- theme to adapt or rebuild: that's development, hourly (€75/hour) or per project;
- catalogues with special imports or integrations with management software to reconnect.
If you're already on 9, or just want to bring your version to its latest release (for example from 8.1 to 8.2), the store update at €249 is enough. All prices are on the PrestaShop pricing page.
A typical case
A spare parts store on PrestaShop 1.7.8 with 18 third-party modules. In the initial check 12 have a version for 9, 3 can be removed because they're unused, 2 are replaced by up-to-date modules and one, custom-built years earlier to link the management software, needs adapting. The client approves the fixed price plus the module adaptation. The test copy runs for a week with test orders; going live happens on a Tuesday morning, at the start of office hours, and takes under an hour.
Before and after
If you don't know where to start, the store check-up at €240 tells you what's compatible and what the upgrade costs; if you then go ahead with us within 30 days, the price is deducted. For modules and new features there's PrestaShop development; to keep the store up to date over time, PrestaShop support.
Frequently asked questions
How much does upgrading PrestaShop to version 9 cost?
Moving from 1.7 or 8 to 9 costs €600 at a fixed price, for a store with up to 15 third-party modules and a theme compatible with version 9 or the default theme. Modules without a compatible version are adapted from €180 each, with a quote first.
How is this different from the €249 update?
The €249 update brings core and modules to the latest release of the version you already have, for example from 8.1 to 8.2 or from 9.0 to 9.2. Moving from 1.7 or 8 to 9 changes major version: different requirements, modules and theme to check one by one.
Will my theme work with PrestaShop 9?
It depends on how it was built. Many themes bought for 1.7 need adapting; since 9.1 the default theme is Hummingbird. In the initial check we tell you whether the theme holds up, whether to adapt it or whether switching to the default theme makes sense: adapting or rebuilding a theme is development, so a separate quote.
Does the store stay online during the upgrade?
Yes. We work on a test copy; the real store stays open until the copy is verified. The final switch needs a short maintenance window, agreed with you during office hours, when traffic is lowest. If you'd rather do it at night or at the weekend that's possible, with band rates for the out-of-hours time.
Which PHP version is needed?
PrestaShop 9 requires at least PHP 8.1; the official documentation recommends the most recent versions. If your host doesn't offer them we tell you before starting: sometimes the version upgrade is the right moment to change server too.
What if something goes wrong?
Before going live we take a full backup of files and database. If a blocking problem shows up after the switch, we roll back to the previous version and fix it on the copy.
