Monitoring and performance optimisation

Know how your system is doing and act before the disruption.

A system that goes down at night and is only discovered the next morning is an avoidable loss. Monitoring exists for exactly this: knowing at any moment how your resources and services are doing, and having the time to act before the problem reaches your users. Alongside this we bring performance analysis, to see where the system is slowing down, and tuning, to make it faster without throwing new hardware at every traffic spike.

Overview

We put eyes on your system and keep them open over time. We collect metrics on CPU, memory, disk, network, application latency and uptime; make them readable in clear dashboards and configure alerts that reach the right person at the right moment, without burying them in false alarms. In parallel we measure real performance - from TTFB to query times, all the way to server-side Core Web Vitals - and act with caching and tuning wherever the numbers say it’s worth it.

We install the monitoring stack on your own infrastructure, not on a platform of ours: dashboards, alerts and configurations stay yours, versioned and documented. The goal isn’t to fill screens with graphs, but to give you three concrete answers: is the system healthy? where is it slowing down? what’s worth fixing first? With those answers in hand, downtime drops and interventions become targeted, instead of handled as emergencies.

Typical problems we solve

  • The site goes down and you find out from your customers → external uptime probes and immediate alerts via email, chat or phone.
  • The server slows down at peak times and nobody knows why → historical metrics on CPU, memory, I/O and queries to pinpoint the bottleneck.
  • TTFB is high and pages drag → analysis of the web server, PHP and database, followed by targeted caching and tuning.
  • Alerts exist but are so noisy that nobody reads them anymore → thresholds recalibrated to real-world values, with notifications only when it genuinely matters.
  • A certificate expires and the site shows a security error → automatic certificate and expiry checks, with advance warning.
  • The disk fills up with logs until services grind to a halt → predictive alerts on disk usage and properly configured log rotation.
  • The database grows and slow queries pile up → analysis of the slow log, missing indexes and optimisation of the worst-performing queries.

What’s included

  • Metrics monitoring: continuous collection with Prometheus and dedicated exporters for the operating system, web server, database and queues.
  • Readable dashboards: Grafana panels built to show status at a glance, not just for specialists.
  • Uptime checks: external probes on sites, APIs and services, with TLS certificate and expiry verification.
  • Tuned alerts: thresholds calibrated to your system’s real-world values, with notifications via email, chat or phone and none of the noise from false positives.
  • Performance analysis: measuring TTFB, response times and bottlenecks across application, web server and database.
  • Caching and tuning: Redis, Varnish, web server, PHP-FPM and query optimisation to cut response times.
  • Periodic reports: a readable summary of what happened, what we fixed and what to keep an eye on.

Stack and technologies

We collect metrics with Prometheus and its exporters - node_exporter for the system, dedicated exporters for MariaDB/MySQL, PostgreSQL, Nginx and queues - visualise them with Grafana and handle notifications with Alertmanager. For uptime we use external probes, which see the service the way a user does, not the way the server does. On the performance side we work with Redis for application cache and sessions, Varnish as an HTTP cache in front of the site, and we tune the configuration of Nginx, PHP-FPM and the database: indexes, slow queries, buffers and connections. We operate mainly on Debian and Ubuntu (on request AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, Arch Linux and others), on dedicated servers or on clouds such as Google Cloud, AWS and DigitalOcean. Every configuration stays versioned and documented: you always know what was touched and why.

A real-world example

An e-commerce store running WooCommerce came to us with slow pages at peak times and two unexplained outages within a month. The server had neither metrics nor alerts: everything ran on guesswork. We installed Prometheus and Grafana, and within a few days the data showed the full picture: slow queries on every catalogue regeneration and memory exhausted at peak load, with the OOM killer shutting down processes. We added the missing indexes, introduced Redis as an object cache, resized the PHP-FPM pools and set up alerts on memory and slow queries. TTFB at peak times dropped measurably, the outages stopped recurring, and today an alert warns us before memory becomes a problem again.

Who it’s for

  • SMEs and professional firms who want to sleep soundly knowing someone is keeping an eye on the systems.
  • E-commerce and SaaS that lose money on every minute of downtime and every slow page.
  • Agencies and software houses that need serious monitoring behind their clients’ projects.
  • Teams already in production who are flying blind, with no metrics and no alerts.

How we work

We start from what you actually need to know: which services are critical, which thresholds matter, who should be notified and when. We install the stack on your infrastructure, tune the alerts in the first few weeks to cut out the noise, and leave you documented dashboards and configurations. On the performance side we measure before touching anything, change one thing at a time and verify the effect with numbers. Standard coverage runs Monday to Friday, 10:00-18:00 with priority triage; for night and weekend emergencies there are on-call retainers with limited seats. For ongoing management many clients use hour packages, which never expire. A single point of contact, readable reports and no lock-in: the monitoring stays yours.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between monitoring and alerts?

Monitoring collects metrics over time - CPU, memory, latency, uptime - and makes them readable in dashboards. Alerts fire when a value crosses a threshold and notify the right person, so you can act before the problem turns into a disruption your users actually see.

Can you improve our site’s TTFB and Core Web Vitals?

Yes, on the server side. We analyse TTFB, query times and application rendering, then act with caching and web server and database tuning. The server-side share of Core Web Vitals improves; for the front-end we work alongside whoever maintains the site’s code.

Do you offer on-call cover for night-time or weekend issues?

Yes, with a monthly on-call retainer with limited seats, reserved for real P1 emergencies on systems we manage: pickup within one hour even at night and on holidays. We don’t sell inflated SLAs: prices and rules are written on the On-call page. Without a plan, coverage is Mon-Fri 10:00-18:00, and night or holiday work planned at least 20 days ahead remains possible.

Does the monitoring stay yours or ours?

It’s yours. We install Prometheus, Grafana and the exporters on your own infrastructure and leave you dashboards, alerts and configurations, versioned and documented. No lock-in: if you ever want to manage it all in-house, you already have everything in hand.

How much does it cost to set up monitoring?

We bill at a flat €75/hour or with hour packages that never expire: 5 hours at €350, 10 at €660, 20 at €1,200. A basic setup on a single server usually takes just a few hours. Quotes are free, with a reply within one business day.

Which systems and clouds do you install the monitoring stack on?

We work mainly on Debian and Ubuntu; on request also AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, Arch Linux and other distributions. On the cloud side we mostly use Google Cloud, with AWS and DigitalOcean as alternatives; Azure, Hetzner and OVH on request. The stack also runs on existing dedicated servers or VPS.
